A saving of up to 20% on your electricity bills can be achieved simply by reducing your incoming supply voltages from the UK average level of 242V to a more modest 220V or lower dependent on loads.

In 1995 the statutory supply voltage across the EEC was harmonized to 230V +/- 10% (207V to 253V). The full implementation of this change was postponed from 2003. However, the present UK statutory supply is 230V -6% +10% (216.2V to 253.0V).

Manufactures of electrical equipment to the EEC countries have now had 13 years to ensure that their products supplied within Europe will function correctly at the new voltage levels.

The UK supply voltages, despite all this time have remained at a nominal of 240V phase to neutral with an average of 242V. Yet a 230V linear appliance supplied with 240V will consume approximately 9% more energy than necessary.

With over sixty years experience in the design and manufacture of AC Voltage Stabilisers and AC Voltage Regulators, Watford Control Instruments have designed the POWERSAVER to reduce and regulate site voltages to an optimum level whilst balancing the phase voltages where necessary.

The POWERSAVER is supplied in a compact design ideal for retrofitting into existing switchgear rooms. Available with a selection of input voltage ranges to suit your particular site requirement and power ratings up to 4,000 kVA

Powersaver AC Voltage Energy Saving Regulators

  • Output Voltage, normally preset to 380v
  • Maximum input voltage 265v phase to neutral
  • Output Voltage Accuracy, +  1% or better
  • Output Setting, external output voltage setting potentiometer, adjustable over the range 340v to 415v (line to line)
  • Frequency 47 to 65Hz
  • Waveform distortion negligible
  •  Efficiency better than 98% with up to 99.5% on higher models
  • Power Factor has no effect on the performance
  • Surge rating ten times the rated current up to 2 seconds. Three times up to 1 minute. Twice up to 5 minutes
  • Environment the quoted current ratings apply to ambient temperatures from –5 Deg C to +45 Deg C. Derate by 2% per each additional degree C up to 70 Deg C. Temperature stability better than 0.03% per degree C.    Maximum altitude 1000m. Derate by 2.5% for each additional 500m; Powersave Regulators are suitable for indoor tropical use.
  • Audible noise level less than 40dB at 1m distance
  • Spike Suppression. Metal oxide transient voltage suppression is fitted as standard. Additional protection can be provided to attenuate spikes and noise down to harmless levels
  • Lightning Arrestors. Can be provided to protect the stabiliser and the load from the harmful effects of induced lightning strikes to the incoming supply distribution network.
  • Construction, Powersavers are enclosed in robust floor standing cubicles for easy installation and servicing. Enclosures to IP20 BS5490/IEC529
  • CE Conformity Conforms to the requirements of council directive 89/336/EEC EMC (Valid to Oct 2009) & 2004/108 EEC emissions / immunity and directive 2006/95/EC, (Formally 73.23.EEC) Low voltage directive.
  • Three Phase Powersavers are normally supplied for “star” connection and require an incoming neutral. If no neutral available a static balancer can be fitted to provide an artificial neutral.
  • Quality Management System. Assessed and approved to ISO 9001:2000
  • Environmental Management Policy. Assessed and approved to ISO 14001:2004
